Pisces Lunar Eclipse
This eclipse is personal for me, and I can only give you what I see through my filter. That’s always true; I just don’t always admit it. Because as much as I love sharing my passion for astrology, there is always a chance I can get it wrong. Which is something I struggle with giving myself permission to do. And this last eclipse in Pisces for another eight-plus years highlights the ideal-versus-real comparison we all navigate.
So, it’s time to practice what I preach.
The Leo eclipse two weeks ago called on us to use courage to be more of our authentic selves. This Lunar eclipse in Pisces turns over a rock to show us the underbelly of our judgements and then asks, where did those idealized standards come from and are you sure you want to keep them?
Which is much easier to say than do.
A story to help illustrate the point
I have a young neighbor who’s had a really bad year. I mean, losing a job and a boyfriend, almost lost a place to live, but gaining a kitten while struggling to keep it all together. I’ve stepped in to help several times, and I’m happy to do so. Except when she texted this week, she caught me at a low moment. I didn’t have the bandwidth to step up when she reached out.
However, instead of being okay with not stepping in for her, I had a story spin out that I was promoting dependence, so I needed to step back.
Hmm. In hindsight, I know that’s not true. But boy, did it suit the moment when a simple ‘no’ didn’t feel like enough. Instead of swimming in the feeling of not being kind enough and judging myself, I thought I would spill some onto them.
A cosmic assist
The Universe decided to help me out. (Funny how it does that when you let it—some Pisces magic.)
Suddenly, a story popped up on my feed that’s a couple of years old about a woman who refused to give up the window seat she had booked and paid for to a mom with a toddler who was melting down and wanted a window seat. Needless to say, someone filmed her refusal, and instead of simply finding someone who would switch, they were content to make her the villain.
We do that, right? I had my own version of it this week. Sigh.
We feel safer with clear-cut right and wrong, good and bad people. But where did we learn those definitions?
We’ve spent years with Neptune in Pisces, followed by Saturn in Pisces, with Neptune and then the Nodes there over the last two years. That’s a lot of energy asking us to examine the beliefs, ideals, judgments, and stories we’ve absorbed about what is good, bad, right, wrong, worthy, or acceptable.
Some of those beliefs may be ours. Others were handed to us long before we were old enough to question them. And some may have once protected us, helped us belong, or made a complicated world easier to navigate.
That doesn’t mean they still fit – if they ever did.
The Pisces/Virgo pairing asks us to differentiate between the real and the ideal, but perhaps this time the deeper invitation is to question the measuring stick itself.
Measuring Sticks And You
What are your beliefs now? Which ones were handed down to you? Which ones are ready to be revisited, revised, updated, or replaced with something that actually suits YOU now?
Because we can’t create something new while automatically judging the present by rules we’ve never stopped to examine.
The woman on the plane was being asked to give up her personal choice in order to suit the ideal version of behavior.
Except it invalidates an authentic no.
What inherited conditioning helps limit your ability to own your yes and no clearly and cleanly?
Hint: abundance is in the direction of a true response to any question.
Ideal behavior can also play to the scarcity mindset. What keeps us from a more generous response? Why not simply look for someone who is a match – like on the plane?
What beliefs make us put the person who isn’t available in the moment on the hot seat, trying to shame them into the response we want? Whoops, power-over thinking demands conformity for perceived protection. See how sticky it can get, fast?
This much I can say: I didn’t like the image of myself as someone unable to give to a person who asked, so I created a story that made them wrong to ask. It made me feel better about saying no.
Sadly, trying to control what another person does has had very little lasting success, as misplaced power throughout history reminds us.
Pluto in Aquarius encourages us to lean much more on horizontal power structures, we are better together and the right combinations are possible. Again, it’s where abundance sits. Which is what I soon discovered.
A Humbling Truth
It turns out my neighbor got what they needed, just not from me that day.
So I didn’t even need the story.
I missed the opportunity to trust that I wasn’t their yes that day, but that the right yes was possible.
And it’s not easy—that trusting part.
Yet we can all make it a little safer to be our authentic selves, with less fear, when we recognize that a real yes and a real no are available to everyone once we clear out the performative piece.
So where do your beliefs have you perform instead of showing up as you are? Where do you expect another to perform for your approval or acceptance? What are the stories you tell yourself about what your actions—or someone else’s—mean? This is where we get into the weeds on the Leo ego driven performance instead of authentic, dazzling you.
Which is why it helps to dig into where we rationalize and justify. That’s creativity, just pointed in the wrong direction. We’re back to creating a story that keeps us protected instead of finding out what might make us feel safe enough to risk authenticity when it doesn’t fit an idealized concept.
Neptune in Pisces gave us more than a collective ideal. Over these years, it also made that ideal personal. We each had to wrestle with what we believed was possible, what we longed for, what we imagined could be better, and where reality didn’t match the picture in our heads.
Perhaps that was part of the work: discovering which ideals were truly ours and which were stories we inherited, performed, or used to protect ourselves. We can separate out those threads, which moves us closer to our ideal with each choice we make, because it really is ours!
A changing invitation
And now Neptune moves into Aries, and the invitation changes.
We don’t have to have the whole thing figured out. We don’t have to create the ideal all at once. Rather, we get to begin where we are, with what is real, and take one authentic action at a time. Slow movement gives us time to peel back unnecessary protection instincts that not only aren’t needed, but aren’t even yours.
That may be the real gift of Neptune in Aries: moving the ideal from something we imagine into something we participate in creating.
And we have more than 18 years to practice.
With Neptune in Aries for much of that journey, courage gets a push from a beginner’s mind. We don’t need to know where every step leads. We just need enough courage to take the next authentic one. Then the next. And the next.
That is how the ideal becomes real.
All of us, together, over this next stretch can tap into the magical, extraordinary realm of Pisces/Virgo—or we can continue to oppose and judge whatever and wherever we fall short. Those relentless perfection pictures are always around. If you want them.
Because Pisces points to where we suffer—often needlessly.
Pain is real and survivable. Suffering is an unkind story we wrap around the painful parts. We demonize ourselves or others and feel powerless when the truth is that we are far from it.
Remember, water can wear down a rock with time and steady application. That’s real power in Pisces/Virgo.
So, why not review your last two years and notice where you can clear out stories created from outdated beliefs—stories we tell with quiet judgments and criticism (Virgo), along with powerlessness and despair (Pisces).
Begin at the beginning
You don’t have to solve the next 18 years.
Just take the next authentic step.
When you do, watch how quickly you can release some truly unnecessary suffering in your life—and discover what becomes possible when the ideal has somewhere real to begin.
There was a great clip of Dolly Parton in tribute to her (I’m crying buckets over her loss). The interviewer called her good, and she flat out said, “I’m not.” She admitted struggling with impatience and irritation with certain people, along with the desire to do the right thing, but emphatically said, “I work at it.”
Those are words I can rest on when I feel the unnecessary obligation to say yes when I’m a no, with judgment. It’s a gentle nudge forward when something feels like too big a task or ask. It’s a reminder when I fall short of what I want to offer.
My mistakes don’t mean I’m not good. They mean I get to work at it because I choose to, while I keep showing up for authenticity with less and less fear.
Then it’s my job to allow the effort and desire for better to be enough. At least it’s a start.

Virgo: How do I make it real?
And that final question is where the September 10 New Moon becomes so important as the start to the new 18 Year Nodal Cycle.
